Presenting: The Gulf Coast Tarot!

Yes friends, the end is in sight and we're preparing to launch our tarot deck.

In order to keep everyone up to date and excited about the release, we're going to share our timelines and updates here.

At present, we plan to have the finalized, physical decks available in the fall of 2026!

And along the way, we plan to run a Kickstarter campaign for the first time ever. Sarah's put a whole lot of work into crafting unique art for all 78 cards in the deck, so we're trying to go big on this one.

The Timeline

Here's a rough guide to where we're at, and where we plan to go. We'll try to come back and update this periodically so you can see the progress.

Step 1

Illustrated and Inked

FINISHED!

First up, we've got to get the raw, creative act out of the way by illustrating all 78 cards. It's a lot of time at the old drafting table, but the easiest way to begin is by beginning.

Step 2

Digital Coloring

CURRENT

Scanning the drawings, checking the dimensions, and getting out the iPad to add digital coloring to each design. This is part of the process we now use on each risograph print, in order to make color separations for printing on our press.

Step 3

Riso Proofing

We're going to print a set of 'jumbo cards' on our risograph as part of the design process. These will eventually be offered for sale as an art object, and will get scanned as part of our process to print the regular decks.

Step 4

Scanning and Proofing

Next, we're scanning the risograph prints and combining elements from the digital files and the printed cards. This will help us spot any snags that might come up during digital printing, and will create a good middle ground between our handmade prints and a digitally printed run of cards.

Step 5

Packaging Design

The card proofs are in hand, and the dimensions are set. It's time to finalize the packaging of the decks. We're going to take a look and see if we can lean on our letterpress experience to create a custom die-cut box for the decks to live in.

Step 6

Interpretive Guide

We want our decks to work with readers and novices alike, and are committed to including a custom interpretive guide to the cards. These booklets will give a run down of possible interpretations and portents presented by each of the major and minor arcana.

Step 7

Kickstarter Launch

The big event! Since tarot decks are more involved than our usual projects, we're going to run presales on Kickstarter in order to reach out to as big of an audience as possible. And with that knowledge, we'll get a better idea of just how many decks to produce, and if it makes sense to add some extra bells and whistles to the project, like a customized reading cloth!

Step 8

Start the Presses!

With the conclusion of the pre-sale, it's time to make the project a reality. We're sending files to printers, running our own presses for the bits that make sense to print in house, and getting everything ready to release. If everything goes according to plan, we'll have the project ready in fall of 2026!

Step 9

Launch Events!

Once the decks are complete, we're not done. We're planning a few launch events to celebrate the release, and plan to travel to a few cities in Texas and along the Gulf.
